My focus is conservative portfolio management, which combines the preservation of capital with absolute returns. There are some investors who have more of a casino-style of investing and take large risks with their investments. Then there are other investors who won't take their money out of GICs because it is too risky. I prefer conservative portfolio investments. My clients are practical investors who want growth and a good night's sleep.

When you invest with me, I charge a "fee for service" of only 1% of asset under management, subject to a monthly minimum of $250. For non-registered accounts this fee is tax deductible. This fee helps prevent any conflict of interest that might present itself. A broker that gets compensated by doing transactions you might be tempted to have a higher turnover on an account than is good for the client. A similar scenario can occur when a mutual fund salesperson is paid a trailer fee by placing s client in a fund. Since I don't have these conflicts, I only do trades when I think it is in your best interest. Also, I can save you hundreds of dollars on a trade because I use a discount brokerage firm that charges a fraction of what a full serve broker does. Instead of mutual funds I usually use Exchange Traded Funds because of their proven out performance and low cost structure.
